  • EMERGING TALENT, CALLUM BEATTIE MUSIC HEADLINER ON FRIDAY at Haslemere Fringe 2024

EMERGING TALENT, CALLUM BEATTIE  – MUSIC HEADLINER  – ON FRIDAY AT Haslemere Fringe 2024

Scottish singer-songwriter Callum Beattie, who’s gaining increasing recognition for his uplifting guitar-driven pop anthems, will headline the music on Friday 5th July at the Haslemere Fringe.

Callum’s story is one of truth and persistence. Growing up in a working-class background, he started performing solo on the pavements of Edinburgh more than a decade ago. After years knocking on the doors of London record executives, this Scottish-based talent is finding that by remaining true to himself he can communicate with audiences in a way that few can match.

His debut album ‘People Like Us’ became a phenomenon during the pandemic, hitting the top spot on the Scottish charts and breaking out nationally with the hard-hitting home truths behind ‘Salamander Street’ and naked emotion of ‘Daddy’s Eyes’.

His new album ‘Vandals’, featuring the lead single ‘Heart Stops Beating’, is unrepentant and ruthlessly honest. The sound of a songwriter finally able to speak to his truth after years on the sidelines.

Describing his new album Callum says “When I write songs, I’m imagining that people are screaming them back to me at festivals… I like anthemic music, and I guess this new album is exactly that.”

Fringe Festival Coordinator, Paul Ashton says, “Callum’s recent gigs in Scotland have sold out within minutes of going on sale. In April he’s touring the UK with Barenaked Ladies after which his popularity is bound to soar. It’s exciting to be able to introduce such a hard-working and emerging talent to Haslemere.”

Friday night will also feature comedy from, among others Milton Jones, known for his witty one-liners and a regular on ‘Mock the Week’, Paul ‘the Sinnerman’ Sinha, and comedy magician, Mandy Muden.

Further artists, including more emerging young talent, will be announced soon.  Follow Haslemere Fringe on social media to keep up-to-date and buy tickets at www.haslemerefringe.co.uk.

  • T’PAU CONFIRMED FOR TEATIME SLOT ON 7 JULY AT Haslemere Fringe 2024

The line-up for Sunday at the Haslemere Fringe is taking shape with the announcement that headliners Blue will be joined by legendary 80s band T’Pau.

T’Pau, led by power vocalist Carol Decker, enjoyed a string of hits in the late 80’s and early 90’s – most notably “China in your Hand” and “Heart and Soul.” Their debut album “Bridge of Spies”, released in 1987, sold over 1.2 million copies in the UK alone, going quadruple platinum.

The original band split in 1991 and Carol dropped out of the music scene for a few years, but in 1997 she decided to resurrect T’Pau with a new lineup. They have kept a steady touring schedule, including numerous 80s revival gigs, ever since.

Festival Coordinator Paul Ashton said, “Glastonbury has it’s ‘Legends Slot’, in Haslemere we like to get the crowd singing along during the Teatime Slot. Last year we had Betty Boo, this time we’re excited to have the amazing Carol Decker of T’Pau.”

Completing the line-up for Sunday evening will be modern funk diva, Tash Hills whose performance of upbeat, infectious and fun music at the last Haslemere Fringe went down so well, her track “Mirrorball Dreams” was featured on the 2022 Showreel!

If you can’t wait until July, Tash Hills and other Fringe bookings are due to perform at The Fringe Sessions at The Shottermill Club on 10 February (£5 on the door).

Multimillion selling BRIT Award winners Blue will play out the last night, Sunday 7th July, of one of the South of England’s best-known festivals – The Haslemere Fringe.

Since forming in London in the year 2000 and achieving their first hit ‘All Rise’ in 2001, Antony Costa, Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe, more widely known as Blue, have sold 15 million records worldwide. In the UK they’ve had 3 number 1 albums, 10 top 10 singles (including 3 number 1’s), won Brit and MTV Awards and sung with Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

Their debut album also called ‘All Rise’ hit number 1 and spawned 4 top 10 singles, including the number 1’s ‘Too Close’, ‘if you come back’ and the excellent ‘Flyby’.

The boys followed up their successful debut with more huge albums, including ‘One Love’ featuring the number 1 lead track also called ‘One Love’ and follow up singles ‘U Make Me Wanna’ and ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’ with Elton John. The album was certified 4 x platinum in the UK.

Although Blue never split up, they decided to take an extended break to pursue solo interests in music and acting, until Eurovision called in 2011. Further albums and tours followed, including the album ‘Heart and Soul’ which was released in 2022.

In October 2023 Blue announced that they would be embarking on their ‘Greatest Hits’ tour with many dates for 2024, including the London Palladium, already selling out.

Festival Coordinator Paul Ashton said “we’re delighted that Blue has agreed to be our headliners for Sunday night. We’re proud that artists of their calibre now recognise the Haslemere Fringe as one of the leading festivals in the South of England.”

More headliners will be announced in the coming weeks. To find out more or book tickets visit www.haslemerefringe.co.uk

  • HASLEMERE FRINGE 2020 POSTPONED TO JULY 2021

    FIRST THE BAD NEWS
It is with great sadness that the committee of the Haslemere Fringe has decided to postpone this year’s planned event until 2021 because of the current unprecedented Coronavirus crisis. The move follows advice from the UK Government and Public Health England for everyone but key workers to stay at home to save lives and protect the NHS.

The decision was taken to safeguard the thousands of people who attend the bi-annual event and the many volunteers who help run the festival.

Committee Chairman Ken Griffiths says ‘all of us involved in planning this years event are sad to have to reschedule but we understand the need to keep everyone safe and are hoping that next year we can all gather in safety and celebrate coming through the crisis with another terrific festival here in Haslemere’.

    HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS
Headline acts Sophie Elis Bextor and Newton Faulkner have already signed up for next years event with other artists, local groups and performers also taking part.

Held in July on Lion Green in the heart of Haslemere the event has grown in numbers and reputation and organisers are hopeful the postponed event now scheduled to take place on July 2nd to 4th 2021 will be bigger and better than ever before.

The festival also engages with local schools as pupils contribute everything from poetry to artwork and many of the talented young bands who are featured on stage. The Fringe Festival team would like to thank all the schools and pupils for all their hard work on this year’s event and look forward to working with them and youth clubs, colleges and other local groups in 2021.

People who have already bought tickets will be able to use them next year and refunds are available.

The Haslemere Fringe Festival has always been committed to supporting charities. This year the chosen charity is the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice who would have benefitted from the event because of the voluntary donation attached to ticket sales.

The Hospice offers care to patients in West Surrey and North East Hampshire and faces a large deficit because of the cancellation of fund raising events due to Covid-19. As we look forward to next year’s Festival we are appealing to supporters of the Haslemere Fringe to show their support through the donations already made. Support can also be offered directly on the Phyllis Tuckwell website www.pth.org.uk, and a link will be added to our ticket page on the Haslemere Fringe website when that reopens again.
